Inge Theron abandons her skincare routine

If your Instagram feed has suddenly been inundated with videos of people getting slapped, pounded and massaged in the name of beauty, you have to thank Inge Theron for it. The former beauty writer founded FaceGym, the massage-focused face bar beloved by celebrities like Bella Hadid, Jasmine Tookes and Lizzo, after discovering the transformative power of facial massage and muscle stimulation.

“I realized that if you don’t actually stimulate the muscles, no topical ingredient can [dramatically] help you when you are approaching your 30s or 40s, unless you do the job, ”says Theron Charm. “So for me it’s about treating the muscles in your face like you treat the muscles in your body.”

Theron thinks that great skin is a combination: half the “big assets” and half the way you apply products. “When I think about cleansing, I don’t think, Oh, I’m just going to cleanse or remove the dirt from my skin,” she explains. “It’s: great, I’m going to use my phalanx. I will increase circulation. I will boost my collagen and also tone, firm and lift. And you know my eyes are a little bit sketchy so I’m going to deflate them and sculpt my cheekbones. Everything is done while I cleanse my face.

Theron discovered facial massage while traveling the world as a spa writer in her mid-30s. She says she had access to “any facial under the sun,” but was always disappointed with the results which didn’t last. However, she was also not ready for something more permanent like injectables, so she looked for what else was there. “I went to Mexico; I worked with Inca healers,” she says. “I went to Japan. Basically I traveled the world and realized that facial massage and manipulation muscle mass dates back a thousand years: the Empress of China used pressure points for her beauty routine.

And that’s how in 2016, FaceGym was born. “It took something that was already established, proven, but made it cool and sexy,” says Theron. “It was just a lot of research and then working with really talented people. I have a great team of master trainers. We have designed this concept of warming up, cardio, modeling, recovery, just like you train your body in the gym.

Obviously, her routine is heavy with massages and treatments, but she also relies on an ever-evolving line of products for her combination skin. It also targets dryness, hyperpigmentation, and signs of aging, but tries to keep a positive attitude about it. “I laugh a lot. I live a lot. When I was younger, before FaceGym, I was very worried about it. But now I realize that I worked so hard to get those lines around my eyes. She said. “I didn’t dance on a table in Ibiza until 4 in the morning not to have these lines. Now I feel so comfortable with them, that they are who I am.

“You have to own it,” she said. “At some point you also have to say, ‘You know what? I spent most of my youth worrying: is my butt too big in my jeans? Or do I look old? And then at some point you leave, that’s the best version of me. I did all I could, and that’s it. Take it or leave it. This is the only advantage of getting older: you become more confident.

Below, Theron shares what’s in her current rotation for CharmGive up the routine.

My cleansers

I really am a seasonal skin care person. I treat my skin like I treat my body: I don’t eat pumpkins in the summer; I eat asparagus. Right now, since I was in the sun, I am using FaceGym Electrolytic Cleanser because it has a really nice formulation. It has a slight papaya extract for hyperpigmentation. It contains electrolytes, which is not found in any other product that I have found. It’s really great for energizing. I also have larger pores, especially during the summer months. It is therefore an extract of red clover, which has been patented. The results on pore closure are incredible. It is so soft that it does not damage the skin barrier. Right now I’m using it morning and night just because I have this prolonged hyperpigmentation right now and it’s really, really helping me. I tend to use September to treat hyperpigmentation and dark spots, both in my FaceGym studio and with my skin care.
