Holy Grail Skincare Ingredients to Banish Breakouts for Acne-Prone Skin

0

Do you have permanent acne-prone skin that keeps breaking out in the blink of an eye? You need to incorporate acne-fighting ingredients into your skincare routine to keep your skin clear and blemish-free. These work well in combination with each other and improve the texture of the skin making those painful pimples go away.

1. BHA or salicylic acid

A type of chemical exfoliant, salicylic acid is an oil-soluble exfoliant, unlike AHAs such as glycolic acid. Unlike AHAs, salicylic acid penetrates the deep layers of the skin and breaks down all the oil and dead skin stuck in the pores. What is also good is that it does not sensitize the skin to the sun, unlike many chemical exfoliants.

However, most salicylic acid products take a while to work unless they are concentrated spot treatments. Unlike AHAs which show visible changes on the surface of the skin immediately after use, BHAs work on the lower levels of the skin and gradually eliminate pimples, with regular use. That doesn’t mean you use them every day, as chemical exfoliants can be quite harsh. So, using it two or three times a week is more than enough.

2. Niacinamide

Niacinamide helps balance the skin, preventing it from producing too much oil. A form of vitamin B3, niacinamide is good enough for those who have a lot of blackheads and want to prevent pores from becoming clogged.

It also helps fade blemishes left by pimples and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that occurs on spots you had. So, it is good for making skin healthier and improving skin texture.

Since niacinamide is stable despite exposure to light and air, you can use it in an open tub like this.

3. Azelaic acid

Although it is not an AHA or BHA, azelaic acid has mild exfoliating properties. It works very well in combination with salicylic acid and has become popular relatively recently. What it mainly does is help get rid of blemishes resulting from breakouts.

So all the marks left after the breakouts diminish when using this. It also calms the skin and improves the texture of the skin, so if you have skin sensitivity, irregularities, redness, spots and lots of bumps, it will help you get rid of all that.

4. Centella Asiatica or Cica, or Gotu Kola

Cica is a very popular ingredient in Eastern skincare, whether it’s India or South Korea. Contrary to popular belief, it is not an anti-inflammatory, but actually a healing ingredient. So if you have angry red marks left by the pimples you picked, it will help the skin to heal, which seems to reduce those irritated patches of skin. It’s a huge boon for acne sufferers, as it helps repair damaged skin, fixing the compromised skin barrier that many acne-prone skin types have.

This Retinol Cica Repair ampoule from Innisfree is amazing for healing blemishes and fighting acne, as the retinol resurfaces on the skin and the cica calms it down.

However, be sure not to use it if you are using other acids and skin sensitizing ingredients, as retinol can be quite harsh and not for everyone.
